Hochgewächs is a fairly new designation for German wines. Since Prädikat wines cannot be enriched (chaptalized), many Kabinetts end up being very low in alcohol, and also in body. Hochgewächs is essentially a Kabinett that has been enriched to raise its alcoholic strength, resulting in a wine with somewhat more flavor and body.
